  • Daniel Sanchez

    Daniel L. Sanchez studies engineered biomass & bioenergy systems that remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Trained as an engineer and energy systems analyst, Sanchez’s work and engagement spans the academic, corporate, and governmental sectors. He is currently an Associate Professor of Cooperative Extension at UC Berkeley.

  • Jitske Swagemakers

    Jitske Swagemakers is an Architect and Research Associate at University of California, Berkeley. Originally from Rotterdam, she holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from MIT, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Urbanism, and Building Sciences from TU Delft. Jitske’s work explores how material cycles drive sustainable design and enable new tactile experiences in the built environment. At UC Berkeley, her work integrates forest management and wood construction with a focus on low-carbon, low-tech mass timber systems for achievable housing.

  • Twiggy Chen

    Twiggy is a craftsperson who specializes in furniture making and carpentry. At the woodlab, they build custom shop furniture and collaborate with researchers on various design projects. Outside of the lab, Twiggy is also a community organizer - offering hands-on craft and language skills amongst several mutual aid networks.

  • Sarah Gunawan

    Sarah Gunawan is an architect and principal of Terrestrial Pursuits in Los Angeles. She is currently a research associate at UC Berkeley. Her independent research and teaching explores the overlaps between misfitting human bodies, multi-species entanglements and ecologies of our built environment. Previously she was the Peter Reyner Banham Fellow 2017-18 at the University at Buffalo and has taught at the University of Waterloo and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Sarah Gunawan holds a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo and has worked at architectural practices in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
